Sukouri stuffs her face!
      by Callista Skip

From Triskelion's Reign, by Callista Skip

Cinnamon, nutmeg, flour - How did I miss this before? Sukouri thought as her mouth watered. Turning, she saw a perfect apple pie tucked into one of the open windows. It was sitting on the sill, like someone had just placed it there. Sukouri's stomach, which had been blissfully peaceful throughout the ordeal of running away, suddenly woke up and uncurled, growling in its cage.

Before she realized it, she had walked all the way up to the pie and was touching the tin carefully. It wasn't hot - she reasoned that it must have been sitting there for some time. This close, she could see the caramelized apples through the leaf-shaped vents in the top of the crust. She could smell that the baker must have sprinkled the apples with brown sugar, and saw that the crust was perfect golden brown, rippled along the edges with a fork.

Sukouri wiped drool away from her lip before it could drop on her new robe.

How could they just leave this here? she thought, looking through the window into the still kitchen.

The pie was in her hands and she was sitting behind the tree before another moment passed.

She tried to eat slowly, but that was an impossible request for her stomach, which demanded that she keep her mouth full. She ignored the memories that drifted up: eating apple pie in her mother's kitchen, swapping her yogurt cup for Jamlin's pie slice in the Gaar cafeteria, rolling out crust for the first time in class during her first season at school.
